Divorce in Ukraine while you live abroad

We dissolve the marriage under your power of attorney: we prepare the claim or application, represent you in court, obtain the decision and put an apostille on it so that the divorce is recognised in your country. Family matters stay confidential.

When clients come to us

  • You live abroad and the marriage was registered in Ukraine
  • Your spouse objects to the divorce or does not respond
  • There are children, and child support and residence need to be settled
  • You need a decision with an apostille for a new marriage or documents abroad
  • Someone already tried to register the divorce, but the case stalled

How it works

  1. Analysis

We find out whether there are children, property and the spouse’s consent, and propose a route: a court or a civil registry office.

  2. Power of attorney

We draft the power of attorney and instructions on how to sign it in your country.

  3. Claim or application

We prepare and file the documents and represent you in court. Your personal attendance is usually not required.

  4. Decision and apostille

We obtain the decision and a registry extract and put an apostille on them so that the divorce is recognised abroad.

Analytical, comprehensive, confidential

What we analyse before proposing a plan

  • Which route fits: a court or a civil registry office
  • Whether there are children and whether child support is needed
  • Whether there is joint property worth dividing at the same time
  • How the decision will be recognised in your country

Who we bring in and coordinate

  • A translator and an apostille for the court decision
  • A lawyer in your country — for recognition of the divorce
  • A valuer — if property is divided
  • A mediator — if there are children and an agreement is possible

You deal with one responsible lawyer who also leads the team.

Confidentiality from your first message

  • The very fact that you contacted us, your documents, property and plans are protected by attorney–client privilege (Art. 22 of the Law of Ukraine «On the Bar and Practice of Law»).
  • The law prohibits demanding privileged information from an advocate or questioning them about it (Art. 23 of the same law).
  • 16 years of practice since 2010: client confidentiality is a rule without exceptions.
  • Only your lawyer and the specialists we bring in with your consent know about your case — under a confidentiality obligation.

What you will need

  • The marriage certificate (original or copy — we can help obtain a duplicate)
  • Your passport and Ukrainian tax number (RNOKPP)
  • Children’s birth certificates — if there are children
  • Your spouse’s last known address

The exact list depends on your situation — we draw it up at the diagnostic consultation.

Questions and answers

Do I need to come to Ukraine for the divorce?
Usually not: a lawyer represents you in court under a power of attorney. We will tell you whether personal attendance is needed in your case at the diagnostic consultation.
What if my spouse objects or does not respond?
A marriage can be dissolved by a court on the claim of one spouse. The court may give time for reconciliation, but the other spouse’s lack of consent does not, in itself, prevent the divorce.
Is a Ukrainian divorce recognised abroad?
For that, an apostille is put on the court decision or certificate and a translation is made. We check what your country requires together with a local lawyer.
Can you represent both spouses?
No. We represent only one side in a family.
